1. What industries do you serve?

Municipalities, public works departments, and water and wastewater utilities. Typical sites include wastewater treatment plants, pump and lift stations, reservoirs, water storage facilities, and vaults. We also work with the engineering firms and contractors who design and build these sites, and welcome inquiries from industrial and commercial owners with the same access and fall-protection challenges.

2. Do you offer custom hatch solutions?

Yes. Our FSP and TSP Series come in standard configurations, but most projects call for some customization, including opening dimensions, single- or multi-leaf layouts, frame style, hinge orientation, gate placement, davit arm sockets. Send us your drawings or opening dimensions and we’ll recommend or engineer a fit. We manufacture in the USA, so custom doesn’t mean overseas lead times.

3. What materials are your hatch covers made from?

Heavy-duty aluminum, for its strength-to-weight ratio and natural corrosion resistance in wet, chemically aggressive environments. It won’t rust, is light enough for a single operator to open safely, and needs minimal maintenance. All hardware is 316 stainless steel; stainless steel covers are available where required.

4. How does your process work?

  1. Tell us about the project. Opening dimensions, drawings, load requirements, and site conditions, or just describe the application.
  2. We recommend a solution. We confirm the right series and configuration and provide a quote and submittal drawings.
  3. We build it. Manufactured in the USA under our documented quality control process.
  4. We deliver and support. Covers ship ready to install, with installation guidance, opening procedures, and training videos in our Resources section. Typical lead time is 10 to 12 weeks.

5. Why choose an engineered access solution?

A hatch gets treated as a commodity until someone gets hurt. An open hatch is an unguarded void, and OSHA requires open voids be guarded. Most covers address this with a flat safety grate, which leaves the crew exposed once they’re working inside and relies on someone setting up a temporary barricade every time.

Everest builds fall protection into the hatch itself. Our four-sided barrier rises to full guardrail height around the opening, so the site is protected the moment the crew raises it, with nothing to haul out, set up, or forget. The safety system is always on site, always the right size, and always compliant.

6. How is your fall protection different from a standard safety grate?

A grate sits at the bottom of the opening. It stops a fall through the hatch, but does nothing once a worker is inside and doesn’t guard the void around the opening. Everest’s integrated barrier rises to full height on all four sides of the perimeter, guarding the void as OSHA 1910.28 and 1910.29 require. It’s the only hatch cover design of its kind, and it eliminates the separate temporary barricade.

7. Does the barrier have to be raised every time the hatch is opened?

No. Raising it is optional and takes only a moment. Many operators leave it down when checking equipment and raise it when a crew will be working in or around the opening. Each floor hatch section also opens independently, so you only open what you need.

8. How do you get equipment in and out with the barrier raised?

Every barrier includes an access gate, positioned anywhere along the perimeter you need it, right where your pumps, mixers, or other equipment are. Equipment passes through while the rest of the opening stays fully guarded.

9. What load ratings do your covers carry?

FSP and TSP Series covers are rated to ASTM C1802 Class 2 (300 lbs/psf) for pedestrian and occasional light traffic. Contact us if your site requires a heavier rating.

10. Are your products compliant with Buy American / BABA requirements?

Yes. Everest hatch covers are manufactured in the USA and meet Build America, Buy America requirements, making them eligible for federally funded municipal and utility projects.

11. Is the design proven?

Yes. The integrated barrier hatch was introduced in Australia in 2014 and has been in daily service at water and wastewater facilities there for over a decade. It’s now manufactured in the USA and in service at East Coast municipal facilities. References available on request.

12. Do you provide specifications and drawings for engineers?

Yes. We provide submittal drawings, technical drawings, and opening procedures. Visit our Resources page or contact us and we’ll send what you need.

13. Can your covers be retrofitted to an existing opening?

Yes, and they’re especially well suited to it. Your existing frame stays in place: a purpose-designed extrusion extends 5″ into the opening and bolts in, keeping the cover nearly flush with surrounding grade. No demolition, fast installation, minimal site disruption. Send us photos and dimensions and we’ll take it from there.
